Assignment #1

<--<< original cool red leaf

I didn't do much to this photo. I liked the coloring and lighting already (as far as leaves and rocks go). I used the Gradient Tool on the top half to cast a little more shadow. I tried out the Radial Gradient Tool on the focal part of the leaf and stem. I healed a few spots on the leaf that were ugly. In basics, I went through all 6 steps, then repeated.

Puke-ugly leaf. The sun must have been really sick this day.

The first thing I did to the mailbox was increase the saturation (which is not on the editing list, so I'm probably getting an F). I used the Gradient Tool in the upper left corner to make the rust, numbers, and lines in the mailbox more prominent and detailed. The black and white needed some help, so I played with those. I went through The Steps a few times, until I was satisfied. Then I tried to removed "The Daily Herald" with the Heal Tool, and failed, obviously...so I reverted.

Extra gross mailbox. Hurry and move on so we don't have to look at this anymore...

<--<< original pollinating wasp

I started by going through The Steps a couple times. Then, I added a Gradient in the upper left corner to lighten the background (it was looking pretty dull and lame, to me). I used the Radial Gradient Tool on the wasp because it was lacking some detail. I clarified, and added a pinch of highlight to its body.

I was trying to make the wasp less scary by pastel-erizing the whole thing. Then I killed it with orange.

Taking photos takes a lot of concentration, patience, and trial and error. It took a lot of fidgeting to find the perfect angle that I thought looked pretty spiffy. I learned the importance of a tri-pod (chair, table, surface to prop a camera on..). When I slowed my shutter speed I could never hold quite as still as I needed to, and my photos were blurry.
